Elian Gonzalez: Ten Year Anniversary of His Return to Cuba

Today marks the ten-year anniversary on the political crisis between America and Cuba within the small, six-year-old Cuban boy, Elian Gonzalez.

The international custody battle that made headlines over the nation ten years ago has been basically forgotten, except by the ones that were involved.

Ten years following this event occurred, Elian has emerged being a young man, and contains to produce to say of the wedding that received much media attention around the world.

The young Elian, now 16 years of age, planned to express to everyone he seriously isn’t bitter in regards to the situation that caused him for being such a politically charged conversation starter over about ten years ago.


Elian made his feelings about them called he attended a celebration in their honor on Wednesday, alongside current Cuban President, Raul Castro. He declared that he loves the nation which was and is his home which is very happy that they wound up where he belonged.

Elian happens to be on track to have a future just as one officer with the Revolutionary Military, the Cuban military.

After Elian survived the trip that smuggled him from Cuba to the United States, Elian’s family inside U.S. as well as other Cuban exiles publicized their struggle contrary to the boy’s father, who was simply still coping with Cuba at that time, to hold Elian in the country.

Finally, after a lengthy court battle, the usa Immigration Service ruled that this child should be returned to call home together with his father in Cuba.

This entire scandal found a head when U.S. agents removed Elian from his relatives’ home in Florida at gunpoint, in order that he may be transported returning to Cuba.

    Wow, it has already been 10 years!! I remember sitting in front of the TV, watching CNN as the saga unfolded.

    It’s great to hear that he’s not bitter and has moved on. Best of luck to him.
